A short while ago my DD had to do a masquerade mask for a school assignment, stage one, now onto the next stage. For this she had to also use products that she hadn't used in the first mask for her second mask and the same again for her third mask. It think you get, where I am going with this, she had to also do something really different instead of a mask to wear which is the traditional use. So here are her two attempts for her homework, let me know what you think will you. I just love them they are so different and yes I did help her and yes I am bias. Hey I only used my fingers to hold things in place when she didn't have enough, that's not cheating is it? she did the rest. The first mask has a beautiful fabric angled across the face which was a challenge to get to stay in place, but we both got there.

She used dimensional paint on the edge of the mask to seal the material and also to stop fraying. then coated the whole material area with decoupage paste, it worked a treat.
Her second mask she didn't want it as a costume mask, she mounted this one on a canvas painted in the blue to match the paper she had chosen, she was determined to stick with certain color schemes as they dictate the mood of the mask etc.
Gold Masquerade Masks symbolize illumination, wisdom, prestige and class. Great for showing people you have been through the hoops and earned your place in the world.
Black Masquerade Masks can symbolize many personality traits including elegance, authority, dignity, sophistication, mystery, and seduction
White Masquerade Masks show you are virtuous, fertile, clean, and of high status. Good if you would like others to feel you have high aspirations and confidence.
Blue Masquerade Masks show you are loyal and trustworthy. Blue is the colour of calmness and some studies show that those who surround themselves with blue are more likely to think creatively. A great color for moments when you are on the spot and really have to impress someone.
So with her second mask she chose blue and white, you read the meanings behind the color. Now lets see what you think, did she pull it off or is it over the top?. Remember here she has done this for a school assignment and it is the assessment by the teacher that will give her the marks not us, but we will not find this out for awhile.
Please leave us a comment I am curious to hear what you think, also thanks for stopping by to read the post.

Love these two masks - must say the gold one is fantastic and how you got that lace on was a feat in itself. It looks fantastic.
I did a mask with Viva paints at CHA last January (see my blog) and found controlling the paint to do the dots rather difficult. Your daughter has had control throughout! Well done. Check my blog to see what the demonstrator did with the masks - might give you some ideas for future assignments.
Love the idea of the fan draping around the white mask. The only thing I could have thought of was making a mask out of chocolate or something like that to enable it to be different usage. If this is ongoing what about a mask mold to make a piece of jewellery with?
Hope this helps - Hugs, Neet xx (who thinks Myrene has done a really fantastic job)
Hi Eliza & Myrene, the masks are amazing! Love the blue one, says serene & thoughtful to me. Love the attention to detail - please share how you get on with your assessment

Great job girls.

Fabulous masks, Myrene!! I love both of them! The lace on the first is amazing. And the blue fan...wow! And your assistant did a wonderful job too. Hugs to you and Eliza!
I think the symbolism on the masks is spot-on! The blue and white looks oriental, like a china pattern, very innocent while the black and gold is mysterious, regal and elegant.
Beautiful masks, they're both stunning pieces. The back/gold one is very well executed with great attention to detail, but the blue one is really quite amazing. LOVE the fan of paper on the side of the face. The whole thing looks delicate, like blue china as someone else said. Love the creativity, very well done Myrene, hope you get top marks.
Hugs

I confess that I find masquerade masks to be a little bit creepy. That said I enjoyed looking at these. I had no idea the color of the mast symbolized something. My favorite is the gold and black one. I love the draped lace and how it isn't a perfect diagonal, but artfully draped.... plus all the bling! What's not to like!
