WARNING THIS POST COULD BE DISTRESSING FOR SOME PEOPLE
I could say really nice things today but I am not happy, first I had a fight with my Vagabond machine a few weeks ago because it went pop and smelt like it burnt out. I was not even using it at the time, it was just plugged in and waiting to cut, yes power on. Went back to where I purchased the machine and couldn't find my receipt, contacted the supplier here in Australia and they were not nice people. So in my opinion I have nothing to loose pull it apart and see for myself what is wrong with it. Face it, it doesn't work, it wont get replaced what have I got to loose, nothing really, it is just a large paper weight doing nothing. Well I can tell you these babies are one really well sealed unit. Says me who does know a little about electrics I am a licensed electrical technician after all, really I am LOL. I pulled this baby apart and gosh it got a lot of anger and frustration out, but in the end it was the brushes and the main cylinder unit, stuffed. So this was on my work desk today, see below I kid you not. I told you it was distressing. Soooooorrrrrrrryyyyyyyy........
Oh and by the way I will not purchase another Tim Holtz Vagabond Machine again ever or recommend one.
This morning before I went to do my charity work and strip my Vagabond Machine I was at my main desk, yes here is my big baby boy, my orange man, he is my cat but he is not happy with me since Yoda inhabited the residence here. So being the nice mummy that I am I let him be, didn't want to fight the orange one, he must still love me if he is sleeping on my chair, took a photo of my desk and I went to the charity group to do the days work and Vagabond Challenge.

Came home to post this and couldn't get on my chair then either Yoda is there. He is doing so well, look his wrinkles are starting to form really well now and he has lost enough weight, now it is a maintenance diet. Yoda is such a beautiful loving little man, that loves company and cuddles. To everyone that has thought to ask about him, I do tell him and I know he loves you all back. He knows he is in a better place, loved. On that note, sorry Julia it was a long one today. Pop on over to the stamping ground and find out more.
Please post a comment I love them and I always return the honour regardless and I thank you now for taking the time to read and listen.
Happy WOYWW
Eliza

How incredibly distressing, and not in an arty way. I have to say I've wondered about powered die cutting machines and figured I'd stick with my manual one. You've helped me feel that's a good decision.
But at least your desk in design mode looks wonderful.
Hope you manage to have a happy WOYWW.
cheers, rachel #67
Lovely Yoda, what a star.

Huh you are not the only one that is not happy with the vagabond - unfortunatly all of us are not licenced electrical engineers! Your cats are lovely and Yoda looks like he is doing very well!
Lots of hugs,
Cardarian
Have heard so many bad reports about the Vagabond and I'm glad I didn't succumb to temptation and buy one myself. Could use the innards as altered art?
Just catching up on a few desks before I walk the dog.

great post today. I keep hoping that I got the one good Vagabond but I too will not ever recommend it to someone after all the bad luck people have had. I just bought a new Big Shot Pro so I could get the 12x12 surface to work with. Love it! Hope you have a great week. Vickie #91
I think that we should forward this post to Sizzix....hope you feel better..

Would I buy a Vagabond after reading this?....and yes Australia is far away...so she must have paid lots for shipping....poor girl.
I sent them this mail...I hope you hear from them...
Poor you, hopethings look up for you soon, have a creative week trace x 46
You're not the only person I have seen who had issues with that machine, I wouldn't buy one after seeing all the problems. I've just ordered a new Ebosser, so hoping that it doesn't suffer the same problems!
Love your cats ♥
So lovely to see both moggies today. Blimey that is not good service from the Vagabond people - and nit the first time I've heard about a nachine going up in a puff of smoke either. Hope you can have a happy Wednesday after that. :o)

Oh my, another VB disaster story. Glad I have my Big Shot!! hope your week gets better. Helen, 19
Poor vagabond. Sounds like it had a very short life. When they came out I thought that a machine that had to be plugged in would be problematic. Probably made in China too. Strike two. I hope you have a good old hand cranking Cuttlebug standing by.

well! You have had a very busy week! And now you have to make 90 cards? Did I read that right?
I think the vagabond situation sucks. That is a very expensive machine!
Anyway, Kitty looks exactly like Orange man! They could be twins (with the exception of Kitty's one dead eye)!! And Yoda looks very proud today!! Good for him!!
Thanks for the advice on my poor pumpkin. I am bummed out over my lack of enthusiasm over it!!

Oh man I feel your frustration. I'm on my 3nd cricut. The first one went wonky while still under warranty, so it was replaced. That one went wonky after a year so I got a good deal on ebay. That was before they came out with the Cameo and the other new one. That's the problem with new technology, hopefully they will improve.

Fortunately I've never had to fight with a vagabond, but have heard lots of stories from others that did. How frustrating!!
Your kitties are adorable--I always like seeing everyone's pet pics on woyww, should post some myself.

It is so infuriating when you pay (a lot) of good money and then the article just isn't up to scratch....good luck with the fixing, when machines are scared of you, sometimes they experience a miraculous recovery..this happens to my DH all the time!
And poor old Ditto must be feeling a little put out - tell him that he is a very handsome cat and we're sending cat hugs to him as well as Yoda :)
Human hugs to you! LLJ #66 xx
I am soooo glad I did not invest in the VB, and just stayed with my Big Shot. Sorry things did not go well for you either, as I have read the same thing about the VB on other sites. At least you can fix yours, the rest of us? wellllll
Krisha #40
Don't think you're the only one, seems many are having Vagabond problems! Fab cat pics! Take care Zo xx 71
Fine cat Yoda he is!
Shame about your vagabond...I've heard a few people not happy with them. I have a bigshot and a calibur and love them both.
Great desk today and enjoy the rest of your Wednesday, hugs Erika,
from room 101 today.
Yoda was overweight?! Good for you tearing vagabond apart. As one person said "forward to sizzix"....I add ..won't do any good. They're not standing behind this machine anymore than they did the electric big shot a few years back. Don't understand how TH let's his name be associated with the dang thing! Nan27
I do think that Yoda is glaring at you while you took his picture! lol Now my question is, did you get the machine working again or was it a lost cause? waving hi from the hills of North Carolina :)
Hi there have heard so many stories like yours re The Vagabond. I so nearly bought one and am now so glad I didn't. Yoda is looking good. Happy WOYWW Anne #146
Happy WOYWW and I am so sorry at the death of your Vagabond. I have just sold my Cuttlebug, and selling my Spellbinders at the moment, as I needed to downsize and was struggling to use it anyway. Some times I miss having the dies and embossing folders, but then I find good alternatives and ready-embossed stuff. Love your cats. Yoda looks like he would be so soft to stroke. Ali x #54
I had to look, with my heart in my throat, and let me tell you I am RELIEVED! I thought something had happened to sweet Yoda. Pfft on the Vagabond! I've heard your tale from so many other people now and most say the same thing--they aren't even using it when it goes up in smoke. How scary!
lol but only because I don't have a Vagabond machine and because you tell the story so hilariously. ;) And your desk looks like its pulling off the design mode look very well. I can barely imagine making 90 cards, much less 90 cards all the exact same! Do you lose your mind from boredom or recruit any helpers? I think I would, to both of those. :)
Hope your week is going better than the Vagabond's is! And now that the whale has lost lots of weight his name Yoda fits him much better...like his skin fits better, huh? :D
Deeyll #160(yah, pretty late, huh? schoolwork is kicking my rear these days...)
Yep Yoda is starting to look like a Devon Rex. You go girl for reusing him!! He has very unusual markings possibly a Si-Rex(Siamese coloring). Thanks for the link to his whaleness...today I thought he was old and dying (looked skinny) but he's on track to being healthy! You're a wonderful new Mum! Hugs, Nan 27
Sounds like you (and others) have had a bad time with the Vagabond, I would forward Tim Holtz this link as he is happy to promote the product and maybe doesn't know the damage his reputation could have. I recommend the big shot - kind of indestructable. Love your Christmas Cards - must get on to mine soon. Happy WOYWW Kim
SOrry about your vagabond. I love my big kick, and the big shot is more versatile. Hope Ditto can welcome Yoda eventually. My oldest cat still isn't very friendly with our newest (it's been a year) but now tolerates him.
LisaDV #164
Hmm, yeah, it doesn't matter if the Vagabond is awesome while it works or not -- if it's prone to breaking and not supported, it's useless. Thanks for the info, these are good things to know.
Love your gorgeous cats, especially your lovely Ginger & white. Next to black cats, they're my favourites. I have seen so many posts from people who have had Vagabond problems, I'm really surprised they haven't sorted out whats wrong with them yet. Not doing the brand any good, is it? Have a good week, Hugs Shaz #107
Oh I am so sorry you are having terrible trouble with your vagabond. I have not heard good things about the vagabond, there was a lady on here, i'm sorry I cant remember who. She was saying she has had 3 of them and they all broke.. She has gone back to the bigshot. My kitties like my computer chair too, yours look so comfy.. (((( hugs)))) for your vagabond troubles. Sandy :)
You are not the first to have problems with the vagabond ...have you tried getting in touch with the manufacturers them selves ...or TH ...after all it is his name on it and thats why so many have bought it ...I feel he would be saddened by your plight but might also enjoy your account ....worth a try ...nothing to loose.Good Luckxx#79
So sorry you had such grief with your Vagabond. What a blessing that it didn't cause a fire while you weren't at home! But how disappointing for something so pricey to have a short life. Hope the rest of the week is much sunnier. Happy WOYWW from Laura #155
ah that is really sad for you Eliza - very sorry for you indeed! mm was thinking a while back of getting one then read all the issues in UK and so dished that idea not that I could afford it anyway...
Do hope maybe you can get it working satisfactorily???
I know there is big A4 one put out think it is in US only at present called EBoss
see:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQP90Yn2gC0
I frankly think it is when they adjust them for other countries there seems to be most issues if they dont get someone proper to do the electrics. As most issues have read are in UK.
Thanks for popping over, Shaz in oz.x
How annoying about your vagabond - I have to admit I have a big shot and wouldnt change it for the world! Sorry to hear you ran out of time and heart for the last challenge - its rotten when the mojo goes running off isnt it! still it will be back soon so dont panic! In reply to your comment on my woyww post (sorry I am running so late this week!) I used UTEE and my melt pot to make the skulls - arent they fab! Hope you have a better week.
Just a thought here, why dont you contact Tim Holtz himself via his blog and send him the link to this. You never know he might do something about it as it has his name on it and if something doesnt work he would like to clear his name and make sure the products are manufactured properly.
Hi Yoda you are looking so handsome
Bridget #41
oh, sorry about the machine. In Maine (USA) we have an "Implied Warrenty Law" that basicly gives you a warrenty on anything you buy in the state. It has saved me when things from my printer to fridge breaking. You might leave a comment on Tim Holtz blog...he has some weight you know...anyway it won't hurt to ask. I have a manual Big Shot and i love it, it is the best I have tried but I have not used an electric one. Happy late woyww, Lindsau #110
Hi there! I have heard more bad than good reports on the vagabond-I'll stick with my trusty Cuttlebug for now(although I have my eye on a BigShot). Well done though for attempting to fix it - I once put a technician to rights by repairing a condemned printer! Looks as though you have a lovely view from your desk! Yoda is looking even more handsome (love the way Ditto has bagged his place-just in case the interloper gets it!lol)
Chrisx btw it is a bird stamp you see and as for the fabric -well you'll have to wait a while as its going to be used for Christmas presents

Love your Kaisercraft cards. Shame about the Vagabond. I never bought one as I did wonder what would happen if it didn't work. Too many friends who have bought them have had problems too.
I'm sorry your Vagabond went belly up, Eliza! I can only imagine how angry you feel, especially not being able to easily open the damn thing!!
But you do keep a great sense of humor and I appreciate that. You're a good woman and good to cats. (You should come back and visit today and see my special "cat lady" card!)
All the best to OM and Yoda and thanks for your visit earlier! I hope you have a great rest of the week! Darnell #59
I picked up on your Vagabond troubles from Zeffy's blog. You have just confirmed my ideas that it is an inherently problematic machine. Debbie (http://acrafterslife.blogspot.co.uk/) from Tattered Rocks had a similar problem, although she did get a replacement machine. The idea sounds OK, but it is not such a hard task to just turn a handle on the Cuttlebug or the Big Shot etc and have a feel for what is happening. At least it is not going to burst into flames that way. Hope you have a less stressed week. xx Maggie #33
My friend, Maggie C, pointed me in your direction as she knew I had had the same problem with my Vagabond.
It was scary ...mine was also just plugged in and it started pouring smoke! I had brilliant customer service though and it was collected and replaced very quickly although I was reluctant to accept a replacement and considered exchanging it for a manual machine. I figured I'd give it another go and if the same thing happened then I would swap to a different machine.
Have to say I was "assured" the problem would not recur so I can only assume it was a recognised problem and tweaks were made to the motor etc., I'd assumed it just wasn't compatible to the British electricty supply so was amazed to hear you'd had the same problem.
Have used it lots and lots and lots now and all seems fine! At least, I hope so. Happy Crafting. Debbie xXx
You will o doubt know by now that despite the frustration and anger, you aren't alone with the beastly vagabond problem. Although I must say that I haven't heard of one that hasn't been cheerfully replaced. Youa looks very settled, no wonder your ginger boy has the hump!!!
