Interesting history..........
It is said that the first postal card was recommended by Dr. Emanuel Herrmann, in 1869, and was accepted by the Hungarian government in the same year and then the first printed card in 1870
Most postcards up until 1898 are "Undivided Back" cards meaning they do not have the line going down the center of the card. Also, writing was not permitted by law on the address side on any postcard until March 1, 1907. Any messages were written across the front over the photographs or artwork on the card.
Haven't we come along way since 1869, yes we still send postcards from holiday places to family members or friends, to show we are thinking of them whilst away.
My postcards are a little like what they were intended for in 1870 and I think they would be turning in their graves to see the artwork on the front, especially with some artwork that is created by the many artists out there in the world. Mine well that is a different story. I go with what is in my heart and head at the time of creation, like most artists I believe.
I have to say that I love arty, styles and the freedom to do what I want on a blank canvas, especially when the idea gets into my head, I have to run with it. I suppose it is what art is about, the freedom to create.
I love postcards a very old tradition of sending someone a quick note, I think it is dying with the modern technology of Internet, emails are so fast and easy, in the blink of an eye the receiver has got the message. Snail mail, is something we need to hang onto. I created these postcards so they could be added to someones mail, I felt a little card or note was needed in the envelope, a thank you, that is more suiting.
